Primary (S480)

The primary school curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said; and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.

As a primary school teacher your role is to bring the curriculum alive for your pupils and support their wider development in these formative years.

Course summary

Our primary training curriculum is designed to support you to deliver high quality teaching in any primary school context. It provides you with the best available evidence as well as practical support as you begin to develop your skills as a primary specialist.

The curriculum is designed to extend your interest, knowledge and confidence in primary phase education. You will develop your understanding of how to teach different subject areas at primary level alongside the key aspects of literacy and numeracy.

In order to become an effective classroom teacher, trainees must be able to critically and realistically evaluate their own work, listen to the advice of others, and ensure progress through continuous reflection. The development of these skills runs through the entire course.
